BioMar has appointed David Whyte as the Managing Director of its new $56 million aqua feed manufacturing plant at Wesley Vale.

The plant is under construction and due to be commissioned in January, 2020.
Mr Whyte is a marine biologist with 32 years’ experience in aquaculture production and supply companies in Scotland, Australia and New Zealand.
He was the first Technical Manager at BioMar’s UK plant in the late nineties and returns to BioMar to lead the start-up of the company’s first Australian plant.
“I am excited to take this new professional challenge to build a high performing team and firmly establish BioMar in Australia and New Zealand. It’s a tremendous opportunity and a significant responsibility to meet the expectation of our customers, staff, community and shareholders,” he said.
BioMar operates 14 feed factories in Norway, Chile, Denmark, Scotland, Spain, France, Greece, Turkey, China, Costa Rica and Ecuador, supplying high-performance feed to the global aquaculture industry.
BioMar is wholly owned by the Danish industrial group Schouw & Co, which is listed on the NASDAQ, Copenhagen.
Once operational, the Tasmanian facility will produce up to 110,000 tonnes per annum of aqua feed product, creating an expected 55 full time jobs and an additional 30 indirect jobs across the region.
