Tasmania’s Parliament was thrown into chaos on the first sitting day since the March 3 election with new Liberal MHA Sue Hickey snatching the prestigious speakership from Premier Will Hodgman’s preferred candidate, Rene Hidding.
Ms Hickey hinted she may not be a member of the Liberal Party for long because some of her colleagues were upset she had accepted a nomination from Labor leader Rebecca White, which was seconded by Greens leader Cassy O’Connor.
However, Mr Hodgman said the former Hobart Lord Mayor had provided a guarantee of supply and confidence in the Government.
