De Bruyn’s Transport has launched a newly constructed $4.5 million locally made support vessel to service Tasmania’s thriving aquaculture industry, showing this 50-year-old family company continues to make a vital contribution to Tasmania’s economy.
Director, John De Bruyn, said the 24 metre Elroi would soon become a familiar sight around the fish farms on the West Coast.
“The Elroi has been designed and constructed as a purpose-built service vessel in close consultation with our client,” Mr De Bruyn said.
“It will fulfill a range of functions, carrying feed to the fish farms, providing transport for maintenance and getting workers where they need to go.
“To build this vessel for Tasmanian conditions, De Bruyn’s Transport worked with Taylor Brothers Marine for the design process, and with Crisp Bros & Haywards at their shipyard in Margate, whose team is very experienced in manufacturing steel vessels.
“We’re proud to work with these highly skilled Tasmanian companies and to help keep jobs based in our state.”
John DeBruyn attended a special launch ceremony at the Crisp Bros & Haywards Margate shipyards on Friday, 16 October, christening the Elroi with a bottle of champagne before lowering her into the water for the first time.
De Bruyn’s provides essential transport and logistics services to Tasmania’s heavy general freight, bulk goods, mining and aquaculture industries. The company employs 200 people state wide as well as operating more than 300 pieces of equipment across the state.
April 2015 marked 50 years of continuous operation for De Bruyn’s Transport, a terrific milestone for multiple generations of the De Bruyn family who have contributed to a proud tradition of servicing the state.
