WORKSAFE Tasmania is celebrating 20 years of showcasing achievements in safety excellence and innovation, in the 2015 WorkSafe Tasmania Awards.

The awards recognise organisations and individuals who are leading the way in work health and safety, the initiatives they develop and the work they do every day to make safety a top priority.

This commitment has contributed to Tasmanian workers’ compensation claims being halved since the awards started in 1996 — from 16,165 to 7634.

WorkSafe has changed the awards program this year, to better reflect how businesses approach WHS.

This includes changing the categories, focussing them to the Tasmanian working community, and more opportunities to win and be recognised.

This year, the overall winner will receive $5000 to further develop or promote their WHS initiative.

Over the years, high-profile Tasmanian businesses have entered the awards, from Blundstone to Boags and Cadburys to Cripps.

Small businesses have also won in both Tasmania and at the national awards in Canberra.

This year’s presentation dinner will be held at the new Blundstone Arena Function Centre on Saturday, October 24.

The new online entry website can be found at www.worksafe.tas.gov.au/awards.

WorkSafe is also offering sponsorship of the awards, giving Tasmanian businesses a chance to promoting the vital importance of WHS and their organisation’s commitment to it.

In return, businesses will be recognised throughout the awards, including the presentation dinner and the WorkSafe website.
